UNI-Copter is a sphere-shaped vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) craft. The difficulties of vertical take-off and landing were compensated by the sphere-shaped frame, which was inspired by Armadillidium vulgare (commonly called pill-bug, pill woodlouse, or roly poly). The name, UNI, represents 1) it has only one (uni) rotor 2) it has a unique design, and 3) it is made by UNIST. Feasibility flying tests have been completed as shown below, and advanced design and control technologies will be applied to make an improved and intelligent system. UNI-Bug is a six-legged bug-size robot. The six-leg mechanism inspired by locomotion of various six-legged bugs allows stable and fast walking. Most body parts were easily manufactured by rapid prototyping technologies, and the real-time video transmission improved its practicality. Advanced materials and multi-robot control algorithms will be applied for improved mobility. More details will be updated soon.
